The Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) at McGill University’s Faculty of Arts is designed for students seeking advanced, career-focused social work education. It offers two areas of practice: Practice with Individuals, Families, and Groups, and International, Community, and Policy Practice. Coursework emphasizes critical thinking, program development, and communication, aiming to prepare graduates for roles in established and emerging fields, including advanced clinical practice, community work, advocacy, and work with diverse populations. The program is research-active, accredited by the Canadian Association for Social Work Education, and includes a significant field education component. A Gender & Women’s Studies option is also available. New for 2025, students without a BSW may complete a Qualifying Year before beginning the MSW core program. The language of instruction is English, but French proficiency is required for many practicum placements.
