The Master of Science in Childhood Education (Grades 1-6) at Syracuse University's School of Education is a graduate-level program designed to prepare students with the latest research and practical tools for teaching children in grades 1-6. The program emphasizes inclusive, culturally relevant pedagogy and targets preparation for initial and professional New York State teacher certification in Childhood Education (Grades 1–6). Students progress through courses in a cohort model, benefit from two to three different field placements (in grades 1–3 and 4–6), and complete a final portfolio demonstrating professional competence. The curriculum incorporates key education topics and required workshops on violence prevention, child abuse, substance abuse, the Dignity for All Students Act (DASA), and school/fire safety. Graduates pursue roles in K-12 schools and various youth-focused settings.
