The Bachelor of Arts in Law, Society and Policy is an integrated learning major (ILM) at Syracuse University’s Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. This interdisciplinary program focuses on the study of law, legal institutions, the legal dimensions of social life, and the policy process. Students first declare a base major in one of several schools (e.g., Maxwell, College of Arts and Sciences, Falk College, Newhouse, etc.) and then pursue the ILM in Law, Society and Policy. The curriculum lets students choose between two areas of concentration: (1) law, crime and society in the United States or (2) comparative and international law. The degree emphasizes how law is shaped by and shapes political, cultural, and social forces, and how policies are developed to address social concerns. Required courses include research methods and a 3-credit internship with options for local, D.C., or study abroad placements. At least 18 of the 27 credits for the ILM must be upper-division coursework. This program prepares students for a variety of careers in law, policy, advocacy, and administration, or further study in graduate and law schools.
