The Connell School of Nursing at Boston College offers a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), preparing graduates to become advanced practice nurse leaders in psychiatric/mental health. Students in the Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner track are equipped to conduct psychotherapy with individuals, groups, and families, serve as case managers, offer psychiatric consultation, and work in diverse behavioral health settings (outpatient, partial hospitalization, day treatment, community programs). Graduates are eligible to seek national certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and can apply for prescriptive authority in Massachusetts and most other states. The curriculum integrates evidence-based practice, leadership, social justice philosophy, and interdisciplinary clinical education.
