The Bachelor of Arts in Asian and Asian American Studies at Stony Brook University offers an interdisciplinary curriculum focusing on Asian societies and Asian American communities. Students explore Asian cultures, languages, history, and diasporic experiences through analytical social sciences and humanities perspectives. Majors can focus their studies in areas such as China Studies, Japanese Studies, Korean Studies, South Asian Studies, or broader themes in Asian and Asian American societies. Students complete 39 credits for the major, including core courses and at least six credits of an Asian language at the intermediate level or above (with possible exemption for native speakers or advanced proficiency). The program prepares students for careers in arts, business, education, economics, government, journalism, law, literature, and media, or for further graduate/professional studies. Opportunities for study abroad in Asian countries are available, enhancing first-hand cultural experience.
