The BS in Physics at Stony Brook University's College of Arts and Sciences provides a comprehensive foundation in physics, mathematics, and foundational sciences. The program requires approximately 65 credits, including at least 37 credits in PHY-designated physics courses, math requirements (various calculus sequences), and electives that allow for breadth or specialization, such as in Optics. Laboratory experience and research opportunities are emphasized, and written expression within the discipline is required. The program prepares graduates for advanced study or careers in science, technology, education, and related fields. Students must earn at least a C in all required Physics courses. Honors and specializations are available, and teacher preparation tracks exist for those interested in physics education.
