The BA in Women’s and Gender Studies at Stony Brook University provides an interdisciplinary foundation in the study of gender, women, and sexuality. The program focuses on critical thinking, argumentation, and writing, with core courses covering feminist theory, the history of feminism, and intersections of gender, sexuality, race, class, and other categories. Students learn to analyze how gender and sexuality shape individual experience and societal structures. The program prepares graduates for careers or graduate study in fields such as law, education, health, counseling, public policy, social work, and more. The degree consists of 36 credits, including a set of required core courses and electives. At least 18 credits must be at the 300-level or above, and all major courses must be completed with a grade of C or higher. Students may combine this major with others as a double major or pursue an accelerated BA/MPH (Master of Public Health) option.
