The MFA in Design for Responsible Innovation at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is a three-year graduate program within the College of Fine & Applied Arts aimed at equipping future designers to address systemic challenges such as climate change, ethics, equity, and technology access through the lens of responsible design. The curriculum is interdisciplinary, incorporating graphic design, systems thinking, data visualization, multimodal interaction, visual narrative, and more. Students engage in real-world projects, collaborate with leading faculty on topics such as Afro-futurism and sustainable materials, and may partner with technology startups in the university's Research Park. The program culminates in a thesis (either exhibition-based or delivered via scholarly presentations and lectures). Graduates are prepared for leadership roles in design practice, research, academia, or entrepreneurial ventures.
