The MA in Art History at the College of Fine & Applied Arts, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, is designed to expose students to diverse visual cultures and historical and interpretive approaches. Seminars and lectures range from antiquity to the present, covering Europe, the Americas, Africa, and East Asia. Students develop competency in a foreign language relevant to their specialization by the end of the first year. After selecting an area of specialization and faculty advisor, students write an original scholarly thesis or substantial scholarly paper. The program prepares graduates for teaching, museum careers, and doctoral studies, and offers access to extensive university resources, including specialized libraries and museums.
