This is a three-year ACZM-approved residency offered by the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine with the Brookfield Zoo and Shedd Aquarium. The program integrates hands-on clinical rotations among the three institutions and The Marine Mammal Center in California, providing advanced training in the medicine of zoological, aquatic, exotic, and wildlife species. Residents receive clinical, research, and teaching experience, rotating through zoo and aquatic medicine services and engaging in scholarly activities. Residents are required to complete a non-thesis or thesis master's degree through graduate coursework (including epidemiology, zoological medicine seminars, and specialty topics) and must submit three manuscripts for publication to meet graduation requirements. The program produces veterinarians eligible for ACZM board certification.
