The Bachelor of Science in Liberal Arts and Sciences in Earth, Society, and Environmental Sustainability (BSLAS-ESE) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is an interdisciplinary undergraduate program focused on understanding the complex interactions between the Earth’s systems, human societies, and the challenge of developing sustainable solutions. The program offers two concentrations: Society and the Environment (SAE), which emphasizes social and policy aspects, and Science of the Earth System (SES), which emphasizes scientific approaches. Coursework includes a broad liberal arts foundation, core courses in environmental sustainability, and advanced electives tailored to students’ interests in either a science or policy concentration. The program prepares students for careers or graduate study in environmental science, policy, planning, and related fields.
