The MA History of Art (Islamic Arts and Cultures pathway) at the University of York offers a specialized, interdisciplinary exploration of Islamic art from the medieval to modern periods. Students study architecture, calligraphy, ceramics, and textiles, as well as the broader social, religious, and political contexts of these works. The program combines art historical analysis with cultural, anthropological, and historical perspectives, supported by modules tailored to the Islamic arts and cultures pathway. Teaching is led by subject experts and supported by York's museum partnerships. Graduates are equipped with advanced skills in visual analysis, research, and critical theory applicable to careers in museums, academia, cultural organizations, and beyond.
